       Latitudes Poem #2

~ after “Latitudes” paintings by Karen Hubacher

Slant of sun casting gold across strokes of lives
lived lush, languid, longing for calm tides,

overcome by the unevenness of dusk drawn long
and mornings meandering past afternoons caught

in loose borders blue on sun’s sinking arc,
fleck of heart

and sea dropped
center of wind-slid

land, blood-red catch,
caprice snaring scapes
in wide emerald flats
of life grown fresh, new
edges of water keening

to skies unseen,
essence of swan flocks

just passed, leaving behind
the wing-rended wind of a land’s reformation

where spent green fields discover their voice,
like intersections where artist meets poet,

indefinable dimension of boundaries, memories
of the unspoken latitudes of the breathing earth.
